Okay, so details are only just emerging on this, and specifics are still thin on the ground, but this news has the potential to be very exciting for genre fans indeed…

Damon Lindelof, one half of the creative force behind TV’s LOST, has just signed a whopping seven-figure deal (ka-chiiing!) with Disney to create a brand new, cross-media, Sci-Fi film franchise.

Anybody unfamiliar with Lindelof’s genre credentials (or just plain ol’ hated LOST) need not worry – the writer has penned several comic books for both Marvel and DC; co-produced J.J. Abrams STAR TREK and co-wrote its upcoming sequel; co-wrote this year’s COWBOYS & ALIENS and re-wrote Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel PROMETHEUS. Plus: unashamed STAR WARS nut, even post-prequels. Got to count for something.

The project at this point is known simply as ‘1952’, though we expect that to merely be a working title.

As an unapologetic LOST fan (yes, yes, yes, even the finale), I couldn’t be more excited to see a purely original creation from Lindelof. Though looking around the Starburst offices right now, it seems I might be the only one…

As always we’ll keep you informed of all further developments.

Who’s with me on this, exciting stuff right? …Right? Let us know with your comments below!
