Before he landed a directing gig on a little film called THE AVENGERS, Joss Whedon was prepping a new web series called WASTELANDERS. Co-created with comic book legend Warren Ellis (TRANSMETROPOLITAN), the series was to be ‘huge’ in scope and ‘dark’ in tone. Aside from that – nobody knew zip.

But the man himself has spoken to Entertainment Weekly recently, and has promised that WASTELANDERS will be his post-AVENGERS priority. Awesome. Let’s hand it over to Mr Whedon to find out more…

”I’m just like, ‘Gosh, well, if I’m going to finance this and put it together, it’s kind of dangerous’. It’s not going to have a soundtrack album, it’s not going to have all these revenue streams. It’s going to be something that I put out there because I feel like I have to, and I don’t have to rely on anybody else to let me.”

Very cool. But what’s it about, dude?

”I’ll say this about it… there ain’t no singing.”

Anything more?

”It’s a dark piece.”

We said that already. Ah well, gotta respect Whedon’s decision to retain some mystery, it’s an especially rare commodity these days. Whatever this thing turns out to be, count us in.

More deets as they hit…

Can Whedon top DR HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG-BLOG? Would you prefer if he were just getting on with its long-promised sequel instead? Share your thoughts with your fellow readers in the Comments below or on Twitter @Starburst_Mag
