Remember after the release of AVATAR in 2009 there was wide-spread reports of fans sinking into deep depression because they wanted so badly to live on Pandora?* Well, we have good news for them (if they haven’t topped themselves by now that is), and the more well adjusted fans amongst you – you might just get the chance to actually go there! Well, go to an AVATAR-themed amusement park that is.

Yep, Disney, partnering with James Cameron, have announced that they’re set to bring the world of Pandora to life within their own existing theme parks. President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Robert A. Iger today issued a statement saying “James Cameron is a groundbreaking filmmaker and gifted storyteller who shares our passion for creativity, technological innovation and delivering the best experience possible. With this agreement, we have the extraordinary opportunity to combine James’ talent and vision with the imagination and expertise of Disney.”

Cameron is understandably chuffed too, “Avatar created a world which audiences can discover again and again and now, through this incredible partnership with Disney, we’ll be able to bring Pandora to life like never before. With two new Avatar films currently in development, we’ll have even more locations, characters and stories to explore. I’m chomping at the bit to start work with Disney’s legendary Imagineers to bring our Avatar universe to life. Our goal is to go beyond current boundaries of technical innovation and experiential storytelling, and give park goers the chance to see, hear, and touch the world of Avatar with an unprecedented sense of reality.”

As for what fans can expect from these attractions, well, we’re in for a long wait with development set to begin sometime in 2013, presumably to tie in with the release of AVATAR 2 in 2014.

* Personally, I think these stories were complete, media-generated bollocks.
