Well I can’t say we didn’t see this coming. In what is fast becoming an even more cursed project than the first film, THE CROW reboot has lost its second director. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 WEEKS LATER) decided to bail on the project, following original director Stephen Norrington.

As previously reported, Bradley Cooper (LIMITLESS) also left the project in August leaving the producers talking to actors Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum (aaarrrgghghh) about taking on the role that the late Brandon Lee made famous. Now the director of little-seen Spanish sci-fi drama BEFORE THE FALL F.Javier Guttierez is in early talks to direct the film.

At the start, this actually sounded fairly interesting. Nick Cave (THE PROPOSITION) was the co-writer and Stephen Norrington was talking up doing the film in almost documentary style. Then the producers brought on a new writer and it’s been in turmoil ever since.

The original Crow film remains a great visual feast for the senses and is very much a product of its time. The music and visual style have dated it somewhat but it’s very much a symbol of the early nineties and where music and culture was at the time. I really hope this project never gets off the ground to be honest, it was the first 18 certificate film I saw in the cinema and these remakes are starting to make me feel old.
