The search for Kenneth Branagh’s replacement might be nearing an end, with director Patty Jenkins replacing the previously reported Brian Kirk as the front-runner to helm the Almighty one’s next adventure.

While Jenkin’s previous output might not exactly scream Marvel, it’s hard to argue its quality, with the Charlize Theron starring Aileen Wuornos biopic MONSTER being a standout amongst her filmography. She also received wide acclaim for her pilot for the critically acclaimed (then critically derided) crime thriller THE KILLING.

And lest not forgot, THOR was also Branagh’s first foray into the world of tights. And that worked out pretty well.

THOR 2 will be released July 26th 2013.
