Despite the somewhat underwhelming box office take and the brutal critical kicking GREEN LANTERN received (were we the only ones who enjoyed it?) it’s encouraging to hear today that Warner Bros are still considering going ahead with a sequel.

So just how badly did GREEN LANTERN do exactly? Depends how you look at it – the movie’s taken $118m worldwide since its release two weeks ago, so is already well on its way to earning back its colossal budget (an estimated $200m without factoring in marketing spend – yikes), the Christmas home video release should take care of the rest quite easily. But when a film of this magnitude opens to a smaller audience than GHOST RIDER and DAREDEVIL (both largely considered flops), it’s hard not to feel Warner’s disappointment. The massive 66% drop in its second week can’t have helped either.

It would be a terrible shame to bail on the franchise so early on, especially considering the potential of the story – now the origin is out of the way there’s almost limitless potential for the character. Reynolds has always championed the possibility of more adventures, so it’s almost certain he’d be up for donning the suit for more.

Expect Warner Bros to make an official decision shortly. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this one.

Game for a more GREEN LANTERN, or was one quite enough? Share your thoughts in the Comments below!
