Big fans of this Spanish language horror franchise here at
Starburst, so it’s exciting to see the filmmakers haven’t wasted any time in
expanding on the mythology with not one, but two more entries into the series –
4: APOCALYPSE.

Little has been revealed so far, but we’ve now got a few details
from the director himself, Paco Plaza:

“In ‘ 3: Genesis’ the action now takes place miles
away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film
an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality.

The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that
draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga
also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films
and leaves the door open for the final installment, the future ‘ 4
Apocalypse.”

Most intriguing. We love how the sequel effortlessly managed to further the
back-story of the first – and while some revelations admittedly diluted the effectiveness of a few of the original’s more terrifying moments, you’ve got to applaud Plaza for having all this mapped out from
the start. The sequel felt like a natural extension and not an afterthought (see the PIRATES OF THE
CARRIBBEAN sequels for evidence of obvious ret-conning), so Plaza’s mention of even more “hidden information” is fascinating indeed.

Anyway,
here’s a couple more treats from the movie, including a new look at one of the
‘Infected’ (not sure we can technically call them zombies, can we?) and the
teaser poster…

3: GENESIS is currently awaiting an official release date, but expect it to hit sometime late this year or early 2012.
