* Awesome news for all us Six Degrees Of
Kevin Bacon aficionados, he’s just signed on to play the villain in comic book adaptation R.I.P.D.
giving us instant one-move access to Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds!

* Despite the rumours circulating last month,
showrunner Alan Ball will stay on board TRUE BLOOD for season 5! Ball had this to say on the issue: “I have no desire to leave. Doing the show is more fun than anything else I’ve ever done.” He’s sure changed his tune.

* Here’s the first pic from Guillermo Del
Toro’s PACIFIC RIM, (which also gained several cast members in the form of
Willem Dafoe and EASTENDER’s own Rob Kizinsky this week)…

* Director Eli Roth is designing a Halloween
maze from Universal Studies based on his fan-favourite horror series HOSTEL.
Anybody lucky enough to be attending the festivities this year?

* Anne Rice has announced her return to
horror fiction with THE WOLF GIFT. So what’s it all about, Rice – “It’s
about a young man who becomes a werewolf. It’s my take on what that experience
is like for that young man, to experience that transformation and how it works
in his life and how he copes with it.” Sounds… like TEEN WOLF?

* Lucky McKee made a wonderful film debut
with the criminally ignored MAY, but I’m not sure about his new movie at all
(and neither is this guy) – see what you make of the trailer for THE WOMAN…

* I think we might need the mood lightening
after that last trailer. Here’s an exclusive first look poster for MY LITTLE
PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC…

* Balance restored? Good. Let’s get on with
it then. With only two movies to go until he officially abandons filmmaking for good, Kevin
Smith, not content with his dozen or so podcasts, his 24hr Internet Radio station, blogs, Q&A tour and mighty Twitter feed, has announced he’s now branching out into TV. Can you guess what with? Yup. A talk show. Here’s hoping RED STATE succeeds in bagging that Oscar nom (it’s eligible, read here) and he reconsiders his retirement.

* Smith’s long-time buddy Robert Rodriguez however has
no intention of quitting the movie biz. You might remember that he was telling
us
last week that he’s acquired the rights to HEAVY METAL (the cult mag, not
the music genre), and that SIN CITY 2 is on the way soon, but he’s also teaming
with the estate of artist Frank Frazetta to make a live-action version of FIRE
AND ICE. Like his previous work on
Frank Miller’s SIN CITY, Rodriguez intends to stick to the original aesthetic
of Frazetta’s artwork – “it will look like you just stepped into one of
his paintings, where you get to see his world, and how he saw people, anatomy,
and composition and colour. It will feel like it’s real, but not real. It’ll be
his reality. He saw things differently. He painted from his imagination. He
didn’t take a photograph and just paint it.”
Here’s some early concept
art…

* Aaaaand finally! Another week, another piece of promotional
material for the upcoming big-screen return of THE MUPPETS. Here’s the new (final?) poster featuring the whole gang! (Who’s that Wall-E lookin’ dude top right? Anyone seen him before?)

More WEEKEND ROUNDUP tomorrow, folks!

Thoughts on any of the above? Don’t be stingy with them, share ’em in the Comments section below!
