Following about 9 increasingly bland video games, two mediocre movies and the recent well-received short REBIRTH and subsequent web series LEGACY, it seems that MORTAL KOMBAT is headed back to the multiplex. In a world where we have five RESIDENT EVIL films, well why not?

Director Kevin Tanchereon has revealed that Warner Bros and New Line have decided to fast track another instalment in the franchise to the big screen. Tanchereon’s take on the mythology which caused much online buzz, forgot about the supernatural tournament scenario in the first films and presented us with more of underground illegal fight club scenario which felt altogether more gritty and real, in the way that Chris Nolan’s take on Batman is ‘real’.

Word is that many of the cast and crew behind the web series will be retained but the new film will be very much its own thing. Filming is set to begin early next year with an eye to debut some time in early 2013.

If you want to see what all the fuss is about then the short episodes are available on good old YouTube. Here’s episode one to get you started…
