Developers Deep Silver have sold the rights to their hugely successful zombie videogame DEAD ISLAND to Lionsgate Entertainment for a big-screen adaptation.

The game initially garnered a massive amount of attention for its cinematic teaser trailers (oooo look, it’s all backwards!), so it’s hardly surprising somebody snapped this up. But when you think about it, haven’t Deep Silver simply sold Hollywood their own product back to them – the game having obviously borrowed heavily from decades worth of zombie cinema. Is there anything really new a DEAD ISLAND movie can bring to the genre?
