Dreamworks have announced that they are developing a live-action feature based on Roald Dahl’s beloved story about a young girl and her monstrously tall (but amiable) best bud, THE BFG (not sure what that stands for).

The screenplay is in the very capable hands of Melissa Mathison, writer of a little flick called E.T. (must be a fan of acronyms), with producer Frank Marshall (BACK TO THE FUTURE) overseeing the project. No word as yet on who will be hired to call the shots, or the actors who will portray Sophie & the BFG himself, so expect some more announcements soon. Oooo, maybe they could coax Wes Anderson back!

Will it beat Cosgrove Hall’s celebrated animated adaptation from 1989? It’s a tall order! *cough*
