Details are very scant on this one – and I should imagine Marvel Studios won’t be very happy with Clark Gregg for even bringing this up to be honest – but it seems The House Of Ideas might be eyeing a move into TV in the near future.

In a recent interview with MTV, Gregg – best known for his role as Agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel Studios movies – revealed that a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series could be on the cards:

“In a lot of ways, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Coulson really lend themselves to a TV show because it’s normal people. It’s real people dealing with extraordinary things.”

“Normal people”? Well, characters that can be put on screen for cheap is probably more accurate. Though I guess it doesn’t stop Marvel Studios throwing in the odd lower-tier superhero or two that we’ve yet to see.

It’s not hard to see why Gregg might be getting ahead of himself on this, what with his appearances in IRON MAN 1 & 2, THOR, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE AVENGERS, and his starring role in the first two Marvel shorts, he’s doing quite nicely off the back of Coulson. Pretty good going for such a bland character, surely?

I think it’s a natural progression for Marvel to eventually expand their universe in to the TV medium, and I genuinely hope this comes off. They’re just going to have to work a little harder making their interpretation of the live-action world of S.H.I.E.L.D. more appealing to me. Sincerely hoping Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS will change my mind.

Is there enough interest in a S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, or is Gregg letting all this stuff go to his head? Let us know with your comments below!
