The Flash, the fastest man in the DC universe, has finally to been given a bigger part in saving the world, courtesy of Geoff Johns.

Over 2009 and 2010, Johns took the Green Lantern, my favourite character from the DC universe, to new heights through his Blackest Night and Brightest Day series.

Now he feels the same should be done with the Flash, and it all begins with Flashpoint. It has taken quite some time setting up the story. He left loads of little hints during his run writing Flash and began for certain back when he revived Barry Allen in Flash: Rebirth.

After this series, the Flash won’t be a backseat name, but will stand alongside Superman, Batman, Wonder woman and Green Lantern.

The story begins with the Flash waking up in Flashpoint, a totally different world than he’s used to. Loved ones aren’t the same, some friends aren’t so friendly, and he races to find the one guy who can help him solve this mystery: Batman.

The Flash is so much more than just being able to run fast and that is what is going to come across in the story. The Flash’s massive canvas involves time. So when you combine Green Lantern and Flash, you get time and space. That is what will be a product of the new story.

Some characters, specifically Batman, can never be beaten when it comes to crime fighting. But when it comes to time, and visiting different planes of reality and the speed force, that is truly the Flash’s playground.

Johns has an ability to pick out what makes a certain character cool and present that in an even better way. That, and his complex story lines that are full of action and amazing adventures, is what makes him one of the best writers around right now.

When the Green Lantern was taken on by the writer, t-shirts for the character, Sinestro Corps, Red Lantern, Orange Lantern, Blue Lantern and Star Sapphire were everywhere. So this time next year, expect everybody to be wearing red t-shirts with a lightning bolt on.
