Vampires may well have been ruined by Robert Pattinson and his sparkly arse but there is no reason to think that people can’t make them scary again. Recent horror film STAKELAND certainly proved that. Now a concept is in the pipeline that certainly sounds like a new take on a stale formula.

Solopsist Films has picked up the rights to forthcoming Top Cow graphic novel IN THE DUST. Co creator George Mahaffey will write the screenplay. The story is set against the background of the 1930’s ‘dust bowl’ with a government agent investigating the disappearances of families from small towns. He eventually uncovers the existence of armies of vampires using the dust storms as cover to rampage through the countryside. The agent is forced to team up with what remains of Al Capone’s criminal empire to save Chicago when the vamps descend upon the city.

No director or casting is in place yet but remember when a small comic called WANTED became a pretty big deal despite being nothing like the source material? We could see a similar result here.
