After the story earlier today about Justin Lin boarding the director’s chair for the next STAR TREK film, now comes a confirmed release date for the movie. The third in the relaunched cinematic STAR TREK franchise will hit the big screen on July 8th, 2016.

When Roberto Orci was to direct, the plan was to give the film a 2016 release in order to coincide with the franchise’s 50th anniversary. Since Orci departed, it was up in the air as to whether a 2016 release would be doable.

A script from Orci, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne was in place on the film, although it remains unclear whether this will end up being used now or if Lin has maybe a different take on things. Either way, Paramount Pictures is confident enough in the film to give it this newly-confirmed release date.
