With Josh Boone’s long-gestating New Mutants recently (finally!) confirming its first two cast members, director Boone has now given an update on what we can expect from this upcoming movie – including the encouraging news that the film will have a horror slant to it.

Speaking to EW, Boone enthused, “We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”

As for plot details, an insider close to the picture has added that the five young mutants who make up the titular team will be held in a secret facility when the film begins. From there, they’ll have to battle both the dangers of their own individual powers as well as their own personal sins of the past.

To date, after speculation claimed the same for months, we now know that The Witch’s Anya Taylor-Joy will be playing Magik, while Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams will be playing Wolfsbane. Additionally, 13 Reasons Why’s Henry Zaga is rumoured to be lined up to play Sunspot, and Rosario Dawson is another who could well have a role by the time the film fully comes together.

At present, New Mutants is set for an April 13th, 2018 release.
