With Marvel still waiting to cast their Doctor Strange, speculation seems to change with each passing week on just who will take on the mantle of Stephen Strange, the Master of the Mystic Arts. After Joaquin Phoenix seemed to be completely out of the picture, The Wrap is reporting that the names now in the frame are Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Farrell and Keanu Reeves.

Whilst Cumberbatch has been linked to the part previously, Farrell and Reeves are both relatively new names to be suggested for the Sorcerer Supreme gig. It’s said that all three of those names have had recent talks with Marvel Studios and Disney. Additionally, it’s also claimed that Phoenix may or may not have had a change of heart on the role. He initially decided against the part due to the multiple-picture deal and the extensive post-production work needed on such a film like DOCTOR STRANGE, although he could very well still be in the picture. In terms of a favourite, it’s believed that Cumberbatch is currently at the top of the pile for Marvel. That said, this is a role that has also said to have eyed the likes of Ethan Hawke, Jared Leto, Justin Theroux, Jack Huston, Oscar Isaac, and Johnny Depp over the last few months.

To be directed by Scott Derrickson, DOCTOR STRANGE is currently set for a July 8th, 2016 release.
