This past week saw the news that there’s a new Matrix movie on the way. Screenwriter Zak Penn immediately moved to quell stories of a reboot or remake of this beloved sci-fi franchise, and now comes word on just what the main focus of this new film will be.

One interesting story that came out of the news of this new Matrix effort was that Warner Brothers were looking at Michael B. Jordan to headline the film, and BirthMoviesDeath is reporting that one idea being tossed around is for this new movie to focus on a young Morpheus, the character famously played by Laurence Fishburne in the previous Matrix trilogy. If that idea moves forward, The WB would be looking for Jordan to tackle the Morpheus gig.

In the previous films, Morpheus is the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar (try saying that five times fast!) and so much of his backstory is alluded to or developed off-screen, including his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith’s Niobe and his visit to the Oracle.

As ever, expect to be hearing a whole lot more on this new Matrix as it develops.
