At a time of reboots, remakes and a renewed faith in the television market, it comes as no surprise that a redo of the 1965 LOST IN SPACE show is in the works. Deadline is reporting that Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have been hired to pen this new series.

The original show was set 30 years in the future and revolved around an attempt by the US to colonise the deepest of deep space by sending the Robinson family on a 5 ½ year journey to a distant planet. Things go belly-up when Dr. Zachary Smith, a pesky foreign agent, ends up sabotaging the mission, causing the crew to become… lost… in… space.

After 3 seasons and 83 episodes, the show would end up getting the movie treatment in 1998. That film, featuring the likes of Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Heather Graham and Matt LeBlanc, would mainly serve no real purpose other than to tarnish the name of the original series. Here’s hoping this latest crack at the franchise proves more successful
