It was revealed last year that Netflix was working on developing a Lost in Space redo, and now comes confirmation that a ten-episode season of the show will debut in 2018.

The current plan is for each episode to be an hour long, and the new series is being penned by Matt Sazama and Buck Sharpless. Prison Break’s Zack Estrin will be serving as showrunner. This new take on an old favourite is being described as “a survival story for the ages”.

Netflix’s Cindy Holland said, “The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”

The original Lost in Space series debuted way back in 1965, focussing on the Robinson family’s adventures in space after they were left stranded thanks to some no-good shenanigans from Dr. Zachary Smith. The show ran for three seasons, totaling eighty-five episodes. Following that came a doomed ‘70s cartoon show and an attempted 2003 live-action series from John Woo, and of course there was 1998’s Lost in Space movie featuring the likes of Gary Oldman, Matt LeBlanc, Heather Graham and William Hurt.

As ever, expect more on this new series as it develops.
