A good horror franchise is the lifeblood of the genre (terrible sequels aside for the moment): Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, the Xenomorph et al still continue to convert new generations, or legions as we call them, and spew out another sequel or reboot every few years.

One of the most beloved and criminally underrated horror franchises is the campy LEPRECHAUN, which never sold out in quite the same way as its contemporaries. It was perhaps inevitable that the half-sized terror would get the reboot treatment.

Spearheaded by WWE and Lionsgate studios and directed by Zach Lipovsky, LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS has given the schlock a skip and focussed instead on the horror aspect, taking it to its logical conclusion, evident enough in the PUMPKINHEAD-esque poster.

LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS debuts on VOD in August and expected for a Blu-ray and DVD release in September.

Don’t expect a straight up reboot, more a homage than anything else. So, what do you think?
