Just when you thought all was looking good for a return to Camp Crystal Lake…

It was only a matter of weeks ago that casting calls were going out for the next Friday the 13th ahead of its booked-in October 13th release. Having been stuck in the wilderness for a few years, it looked like Jason Voorhees was finally being brought back into action. Well, apparently not.

As reported by Bloody-Disgusting, not only has this new Friday the 13th – titled Friday the 13th, Part 13  been pulled from Paramount’s upcoming release schedule, but it’s actually been indefinitely shut down.

The early word is that there could be a rights conflict between Warner Brothers/New Line and Paramount, and then there’s speculation that the film could’ve been pulled due to the poor performance on Rings over this past weekend. That movie took $13 million in the US during its opening weekend, but that’s a lot less than Paramount was hoping for from a return to a horror franchise that was last visited 12 years ago. As such, it could be that revisiting Friday the 13th now doesn’t seem as appealing as it once did.

The Crazies’ Brock Eisner was to direct this Friday the 13th reboot from a script by Aaron Guzikowski, but now we’ll just have to wait and see if anything further develops on this front. For now, though, Jason can once again sink back to the depths of Crystal Lake as he awaits his next move.
