Remember how a new Friday the 13th movie is in development? Whilst details are still pretty scarce on the redo/remake/relaunch/reimagining or whatever hip term is being thrown around these days, there’s at least an update on when the next installment of a franchise that’s seen twelve films to date (including the crossover battle with Mr. Krueger) is to shoot.

Variety is reporting that the movie is likely to start shooting within the next 180 days. Why’s that? Well, the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program has released details on 28 movies that they’re giving tax credits to in order to help job creation. One of those movies is, you guessed it, the new Friday the 13th effort. The film has received a credit of $5.6 million, but the catch is that to keep these credits the picture has to start shooting within 180 days of receiving the news. This doesn’t mean that the film will definitely start shooting within that time, but it certainly seems sensible in order to maximize the credits on offer.

In addition to this development, The Crazies’ Breck Eisner is in talks to helm this new entry in the franchise, which has a screenplay in place from Prisoners’ Aaron Guzikowski. The film has previously been described by producer Brad Fuller as an “origin-ish” tale, with it expected to look at the family life of the Voorhees clan, Pamela, Elias, and little Jason. We know, we’re yet to be sold on that prospect either…

The current release date for this next Friday the 13th is January 13th, 2017 (and yes, it’s a Friday), but that date seems a little unrealistic at this stage of the game. As such, speculation is that the movie could be pushed back to October 13th, 2017 (yes, that’s a Friday, too).

Expect more on this as it develops.
