This past weekend has finally seen some solid movement on the next installment in the Friday the 13th franchise, with a casting call having gone out, the production start date revealed, and a title confirmed.

As reported by Bloody-Disgusting, the film is now to be known as Friday the 13th, Part 13 as it is indeed the thirteenth entry in this beloved horror series. Following ten initial movies, Jason Voorhees then faced off with Elm Street’s infamous Freddy Krueger in Freddy vs. Jason, which in turn was followed by Marcus Nispel’s 2009 Friday the 13th remake. There’s still no word right now, though, on just how this new film will tie in to the existing world, as in whether it will link to the original franchise movies, whether it will pick up from the Derek Mears-starring redo, or whether it will be a completely separate beast of its own. What we do know, however, is that it will be an “origin-ish story” according to producer Brad Fuller.

In further news, this new Friday the 13th is expected to start shooting in Conyers, Georgia in March, which would certainly make sense if the film is to stay on track for the previously-announced October 13th, 2017 release date that Platinum Dunes have booked it in for.

And finally, a casting call has been put out for twins to play the young Jason Voorhees. Given that the movie will be largely shot at night and will consist of long shoots, it makes sense for two identical young actors to play the young Jason in order for the production to avoid potential legal issues.

Breck Eisner, best known for helming the remake of The Crazies, is the man tasked with directing this new Friday the 13th, which we’ll bring you more on as it develops.
