Warner Bros.’ prequel to Stephen King’s chilling 1997 novel is no secret, but details have been sparse. Mark Romanek, he of the underrated NEVER LET ME GO, is reportedly set to direct OVERLOOK HOTEL, working from a script penned by ex-WALKING DEAD showrunner Glen Mazzara.

The Hollywood reporter has revealed that James Vanderbildt (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2), Brad Fischer (BLACK SWAN) and Laeta Kalogridis (AVATAR) are producing the origin story to Stanley Kubrick’s essential 1980 horror.

OVERLOOK HOTEL is based on an unpublished prologue to the classic novel, which was cut before publication. The prequel, which will be set at the turn of the 20th century, follows Bob T. Watson, the hotel’s first owner.

OVERLOOK HOTEL is expected to open its doors sometime in 2016.
