After much rumour and speculation, last month saw Lucasfilm and Disney officially announce that the second Star Wars Anthology movie will focus on everyone’s favourite scruffy-looking nerf herder and will be directed by The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Now we’re starting to get some more details on just when we’ll pick things up with the iconic Han Solo.

Speaking to EW about the Solo movie, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy said, “We don’t want to spend time going back to answering a lot of questions that, quite frankly, I don’t think people want answered. I think the key here is that we are identifying an event or events in Han Solo’s life that gives you some idea of who he is and why he is the character we have all known to love. You can imagine, given who we’ve chosen to come in and direct, it should be very entertaining and funny. Han Solo is the character inside Star Wars that everybody knows has a wit and sense of humour. So that’s what this should be.”

Here’s hoping there’s not too much humour thrown at Han in this Anthology movie. Sure, he is indeed a deeply charismatic, witty and at times humourous character, but here’s hoping that we don’t get something akin to Dumb and Dumber 3 but starring Han and Chewie (if the legendary walking carpet ends up making an appearance).

With a younger Han Solo the focus of this film, that obviously (and regrettably to some) calls for a new actor to play one of the most iconic characters in cinema history. On who they’re looking for to play this new version of Han, Kennedy revealed, “He’ll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s. We’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo.”

With directors now on board, this Anthology movie also has a screenplay already in place. The legendary Lawrence Kasdan, best known for his work on the likes of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Last Ark and who has co-written the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, has put the screenplay together with Freak and Geeks’ Jon Kasdan.

The still untitled Han Solo Anthology movie is currently set for a May 25th, 2018 release.
