Well this project has certainly grabbed our attention! Mark Hamill, Jeffrey Combs, Christopher Plummer and Doug Bradley are teaming up on the animated Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom.

Shout! Factory and Arcana Studios are behind the movie, and it will be based on Bruce Brown and Dwight L. MacPherson’s graphic novel of the same name. The second in the Howard Lovecraft animated film series, Sean Patrick O’Reilly will be on writing, directing and producing duties. This follows in the wake of Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom, which also featured Plummer and Bradley alongside Ron Perlman and Jane Curtin.

The current blurb on Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom reads:

This new fantasy film follows a young Howard Lovecraft and his friend ‘Spot’ on an adventure from the frozen wasteland to the depths of a mysterious ocean. The movie entwines new storytelling, actual events of H.P. Lovecraft’s life, iconic elements of his writings and literary characters that include Cthulhu and Shoggoth.

As for the cast, Mark Hamill, who as well as obviously being famous for Star Wars has done a whole host of voice work (the Clown Prince of Crime, anyone?), will be playing Dr. Henry Armitage. Then Re-Animator’s Jeffrey Combs will be playing King Abdul, the legendary Christopher Plummer is back as Dr. Herbert West, and Hellraiser’s Doug Bradley is returning as Nyarlathotep.
