With Neill Blomkamp now on board to make Alien 5 and Ridley Scott working on Prometheus 2, the world of the Xenomorph is very much alive. It appears though, that Alien 5 has a little bit of a sticking problem.

20th Century Fox is developing both films, with Blomkamp’s Alien movie looking to get moving first. The problem is, Ridley Scott, who is producing Alien 5 and likely directing Prometheus 2, has told the studio to make the Prometheus sequel their priority. As such, Alien 5 is looking like being pushed back by a year or so.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting the news, with their inside source saying, “Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea. Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first.”

No real plot details area known for this new Alien movie just yet, but the concept art that got District 9 director Blomkamp the gig featured Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Hicks, suggesting its set after Aliens and effectively ignoring Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection… oh, and of course those two Alien vs. Predator movies.

Initially, this next Alien film was set for a 2017 release, although it looks like now being pushed back to 2018. As for Prometheus 2, that’s due to start shooting in January of next year.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
