So you’re a massive fan of ALIEN and ALIENS. You were left disappointed by ALIEN 3 and not even Ron Perlman could save ALIEN: RESURRECTION for you. Then came the filled-with-potential yet delivered-with-contempt ALIEN VS PREDATOR movies. But it’s okay, Ridley came back, right? Oh wait, PROMETHEUS wasn’t all that you hoped it would be? We feel your pain.

If the thought of PROMETHEUS 2 isn’t quite doing it for you, here’s a brilliant glimpse of what could’ve been. Yes, it is indeed a slow news day here at Moonbase Alpha, so we’re reporting on a film that is seemingly never going to happen. Still, it is rather cool to see what could’ve been. You see, DISTRICT 9 and ELYSIUM director Neill Blomkamp revealed over the weekend that he had been secretly working on some sort of ALIEN project, reportedly titled ALIEN XENO at the time. The director has taken to social media to reveal a whole host of concept art for this seemingly defunct project, and it definitely looks mighty cool.

When revealing these impressive images, Blomkamp did add, “This has nothing to do with the studio. They didn’t really even know I was working on it,” before another message read, “Was working on this. Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though. Woulda rocked. Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created.” With the exact specifics all a little vague, we’re just happy to see that Hicks was brought back into the fold, even if he is looking just a tad worse for wear!

Blomkamp has stated that ALIENS is his favourite film of all time in various interviews previously, so maybe it was just a case of the director deciding to get together and see what he could create, with no studio involvement or commitment to anything ever coming of it. As new details emerge, it’s been revealed that the man behind this fantastic artwork is Geoffroy Thoorens.

Up next for Neill Blomkamp is CHAPPIE, which hits screens on March 6th. On the ALIEN front, for now at least, it’s a case of what could’ve been. Or we could just hope that PROMETHEUS 2 does something spectacular if and when that finally happens.
