To many genre fans, Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 is a modern sci-fi classic, and so we’re sure you’ll agree that news of a follow-up to that 2009 picture is certainly a good thing.

Speaking to The Verge, Blomkamp enthused, “With District 9, I plan on making another film in that world. To go back and work with WETA and make the film would be cool, but anything that pre-exists like that may not be the best fir for whatever we’re trying here.”

Blomkamp’s District 9 starred Sharlto Copley and focussed on an alien race forced to live in a slum district of South Africa. From a modest budget of $30 million, the film managed to take home an impressive $210 million across the globe.

As ever, expect more on all of this as and when we get it.
