When it was announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in the process of bringing Sandman to the big-screen, fans were understandably concerned. Many have tried and failed to adapt Neil Gaiman’s seminal classic comic book for the cinema and television. How do you distil such an multi-storied epic into a buttock comfortable running time?

Despite any misgivings about the format in which Sandman will be presented, Joseph Gordon-Levitt had some promising news as he revealed that he has been working with Neil Gaiman on the screenplay.

“Right now we’re working on a script. It’s me and Nolan Batman movies. It’s really exciting. There’s not a script yet. We’re still kind of working it out because it’s such a complicated adaptation because Sandman wasn’t written as novels. Sin City was written as a novel. Sandman is 75 episodic issues. There’s a reason people have been trying and failing to adapt Sandman for the past 20 years.”

Coincidentally Gordon-Levitt can currently be seen in the aforementioned, SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, and although he has signed on to produce SANDMAN it has not been confirmed if he will star or direct the project.
