The character of Damien Darhk was referenced at various points during Season 3 of The CW’s Arrow, and it’s now been revealed just who will be playing the villain when the Emerald Archer-centric show returns later this year.

The CW has announced that Neal McDonough will be taking on the role when Arrow returns for its fourth season. McDonough is best known for his work on the likes of Justified and Suits and for playing Dum Dum Duggan in Captain America: The First Avenger, and Darhk will be the ‘big bad’ of Arrow Season 4.

As for Damien Darhk, he was created back in 1999, largely used as a Teen Titans villain. A genius-level criminal with major ties to H.I.V.E., it’ll be interesting to see how Darhk plays out on the small screen. The producers of Arrow have already given an indication of what we can expect to see, describing their take on Damien Darhk as “a mysterious and sophisticated villain, and an adversary of the late Ra’s al Ghul. Now the leader of his own clandestine group, this cunning foe will prove to be one of the Arrow’s greatest challenges.”

Arrow returns to US screens on October 7th, with a UK return expected to follow shortly after.
