Remember the on-off-on-off Justice League Dark movie that Guillermo del Toro was developing for a fair while over at Warner Brothers? Well even though del Toro had to leave the project due to scheduling problems, there’s some news coming out today on which actors Warners is looking at for some of the film’s key roles.

Latino Review broke the scoop, with arguably the biggest piece of news being that Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor are two names in the frame to clear audience’s mind of Keanu Reeves’ John Constantine as they are in the mix to play Hellblazer. It’s believed that whoever of Farrell and McGregor doesn’t get the Constantine gig then they could very well end up playing Jason Blood, the human form that the demonic Etrigan attaches himself to.

Elsewhere, del Toro apparently pushed hard for Ron Perlman, who starred in del Toro’s Hellboy movies, to play Swamp Thing, which is a casting choice that The WB is supposedly still in favour of. For Madame Xanadu, Monica Bellucci is seen as the top choice. Then there’s Deadman, for which the studio is supposedly lookiing for a comedic actor to take on the role. As for the magical Zatanna, a hispanic or black actress is the studio’s preferred choice.

The thing is, despite all of the above, Justice League Dark doesn’t have a director, release date or even a definite ‘yes’ that it’s going to take place. For years it’s seemingly been the little engine that could amongst the juggernaut-esque names that Warners is introducing to their DC Cinematic Universe. Once del Toro sadly departed the project, many believed that the film was as good as dead.

In an ideal world, del Toro’s schedule would free up and he’d rejoin Justice League Dark, but for now it’s at least good to know that the film may happen at some point regardless.
