The last few months of 2014 saw a bunch of names linked to the roles of younger versions of Jean Grey and Scott Summers in Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Now some new news is coming out that there are some other names in the frame for those particular gigs, as well as details on who is up for the role of a young Ororo Munroe, aka Storm.
SuperheroHype is reporting that GAME OF THRONES’ Sophie Turner and THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL’s Saoirse Ronan are now up for the part of Jean Grey, with certain quarters claiming that the role had actually previously been offered to Hit-Girl herself, Chloe Grace Moretz. Moretz apparently had to turn down the Marvel Girl gig due to scheduling conflicts, with Singer and 20th Century Fox turning their attention to Turner and Ronan.
As for Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, the new names in the frame for that particular part are KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE’s Taron Edgerton, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN’s Jamie Blackley, and MUD’s Tye Sheridan. It’s believed that Sheridan is the current frontrunner to play the younger version of the leader of the X-Men team.
Whilst we’d previously heard that there were to be roles in Singer’s DAYS OF FUTURE PAST follow-up for the younger Jean and Scott, this is the first we’ve heard on the appearance of a young Storm. For that part, Latino Review is reporting that the two names believed to be up for the role are KC UNDERCOVER’s Zendaya Coleman, and Alexandra Shipp, best known for recently playing the titular role in AALIYAH: THE PRINCESS OF R&B.
Certain reports claim that the above names have all actually read for the respective parts, whilst other reports suggest that these new names have been added to the list of ‘maybes’ along with those previously said to be up for the roles last year. The names at that time were Chloe Grace Moretz, Elle Fanning, and Hailee Steinfeld for Jean Grey, and Timothee Chalamet, Ben Hardy, and Charlie Rowe for Scott Summers. As mentioned earlier, it’s believed that Moretz was actually offered the role of Jean but had to turn it down. It’s unknown at this stage whether the ‘adult’ versions of Jean, Cyclops and Storm will appear in this latest X-film, but don’t be surprised to see Famke Janssen, James Marsden and Halle Berry turning up at least briefly to reprise their familiar X-MEN roles at some stage.
At present, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is currently set for a May 27th, 2016 release.
