In some news that’s sure to pique the interest of many a genre fan, MTV is now developing a new live-action Aeon Flux TV series.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Teen Wolf’s Jeff Davis has been brought in to serve as showrunner, and he’ll also write and executive produce alongside The Walking Dead’s Gale Anne Hurd. Back in 2005, Hurd actually produced the Charlize Theron-starring Aeon Flux movie.

For those not familiar with Aeon Flux, the original series first aired on MTV back in 1991. Back then, it was a batch of shorts put together by animator Peter Chung. More shorts followed in 1992, and then 1995 saw a ten-episode animated series impress many. The aforementioned film would arrive in 2005, although that would ultimately be a box office dud; bringing home just $52 million from a budget of $65 million.

The basic premise of Aeon Flux sees the action playout in a dystopian future, with the focus being on a young assassin who teams up with a team of biohacking rebels in a desperate attempt to save humanity itself.

Expect more on this new Aeon Flux effort as we get it.
