The wait between J.J. Abrams’s first foray into the Star Trek Universe and its sequel, STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS caused many fans to get fidgety, but it also made the sequel that much more fun for those itching to go back to “where no man has gone before.” Now, BuzzHub has a quote from Zachary Quinto, the actor who plays the stoic Vulcan Spock, and it gives us a rough idea of when to expect the third instalment. Here’s what Quinto had to say on the matter:

“Star Trek 3 should be filming, I suppose, next year. It’s going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That’s the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet.”

While this is vague, it is enough to spark a bit of excitement in those who enjoyed the 2009 reboot and STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS. If what Quinto said is indeed true, then the wait time between STAR TREK 2 and 3 will be half of the time we waited for INTO DARKNESS. Sadly, though, J.J. Abrams may not be back to helm the third outing with Kirk and his crew due to his commitments to Disney and STAR WARS EPISODE VII.

What do you think? Does this excite you at all? Or are you boycotting the film if Abrams isn’t involved?
