I haven’t seen THE DIVIDE yet but I hear mixed things. I have seen Xavier Gens’ previous directorial outings FRONTIER(S) and HITMAN however, and I can say that the guy has a keen visual sensibility but is not too subtle or skilled when it comes to a narrative. Now Gens is attached to direct HOUSE OF HORROR through James Wan’s new production deal with Icon Entertainment.

You can blame the success of INSIDIOUS for this one. The story will be told in flashback with a captured suspect recounting a tale to police in which five amateur ghost hunters were killed in a haunted house. The film will also use found footage (yay) and TV news reports to tell the tale as it becomes increasingly obvious the suspect has brought something evil with him from the house.

The screenplay for HOUSE OF HORROR is by Max La Bella based on a story by Wan. Gens replaces previous director Javier Guttierez who is possibly eyeing up THE CROW reboot.

I’m not totally against a production house set up specifically to make horror scary again but I am reminded of what happened to Sam Raimi’s Ghost House productions which sadly fell into a remake and PG-13 horror slump it has yet to recover from.
