One of the most effortlessly cool characters out there, Gambit has seen his cinematic screen time restricted to a relatively small part in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, where he was played by Taylor Kitsch. We’ve heard of no immediate plans to have the character feature in any of the upcoming X-films, but Channing Tatum has thrown his name out there if the role ever comes available.

Asked by /Film about what comic-book character he’d like to play, Tatum said, “I would love to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favourite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people.”

He added, “Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.”

Taylor Kitsch did a good job in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, and we’d be happy to see him return to the role. Similarly, Channing Tatum could also bring a lot to the character, and we’re intrigued to see his Cajun accent.

Either way, surely Gambit is just too smoothly cool of a character to keep away from the big screen for too long.
