Just last week Joss Whedon talked up the possibility of Quicksilver and his sister Scarlet Witch appearing in AVENGERS 2. Seems Bryan Singer thought that sounded like a good idea based on the following tweet from earlier today.

“Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.”

That’s right folks, AMERICAN HORROR STORY star Evan Peters has joined Singer’s already expanding band of mutants for the sequel to the threequel that is also a sequel to the prequel. This doesn’t mean that Whedon can’t still use Quicksilver in his AVENGERS sequel though, as Quicksilver is one of the few X-Men characters whose film rights are held by both 20th Century Fox and Marvel/Disney.

Quicksilver (and Scarlet Witch) have a strong basis for appearing in the X-MEN films, being the children of Magneto in the comics. But that said, the movies do have a habit of ignoring familial ties between characters when adapting them, so Quicksilver may not share the same parentage that he does in the comics.

With a cast that already boasts Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Omar Sy and more (but still no James Marsden) this could be the most character packed X-Men to date.

We’ll find out how all the pieces fit when X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hits cinemas on July 17th 2014.
