With CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER set for a UK release next week, two of the movie’s writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFreely, have been teasing what they’re currently thinking for CAPTAIN AMERICA 3, which the duo will also be penning.

Speaking to Den of Geek, McFreely said, “You can probably predict some of the threads we would like to pick up again that we’ve laid out. And we always go back to the comics and look at anything we’ve missed in the last few years that might be relevant.”

Markus added, “We’ve definitely set out on a more realistic road in the movies. So it kind of rules out Cap fighting the Dinosaur Man or something like that. There are a couple of storylines we’re playing with right now that we really want to take elements from, which we’ll not reveal. All I’m saying is psychotic 1950s Cap.”

During the 1950s in the comic book world, a fake Cap fought the Communist threat. This Cap, William Burnside, was injected with the same super soldier serum as Steve Rogers but ended up going insane and leading a Neo-Nazi army. Are there elements of these stories that could appear in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3?

When asked about a possible return for Cap’s greatest foe the Red Skull, Markus said that they didn’t want to “bring back so soon.” He then teased, “I think it’s fairly clear he didn’t die in that first movie but fucked off into Wonderland.”

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is officially released on Wednesday, 26th March, but you can find our early review here.
