After this year’s WORLD WAR Z received a positive response from fans and critics alike – not to mention taking an impressive $540 million across the globe – there was always a good chance that we would see a sequel. Since then, pretty much everybody involved in the first film has tried to champion the cause for a follow-up. We’re now getting news, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that the sequel has got Juan Antonia Bayona on board to direct. Bayona is best known for his work on the brilliant THE ORPHANAGE.

Brad Pitt had already been confirmed to return for the sequel, working as a producer on the movie as well as the story’s anchor. Pitt led the charge in the Marc Forster’s first film, which was adapted from the Max Brooks novels.

At present, no writers are attached to the WORLD WAR Z sequel, and there is not release date pencilled in just yet.

Expect more on this as it becomes available.
