After last weeks crushing news that there will be no HALLOWEEN 3D this year, now comes word that another major genre film has shifted release.

The Marc Forster directed adaptation of Max Brooks’ epic zombie history novel WORLD WAR Z starring Brad Pitt, has had its release yanked from December 2012 until June 21st 2013. Instead its December slot has now been occupied by the controversial Tom Cruise starring Jack Reacher adaptation ONE SHOT.

Christmas is rapidly becoming like Summer in terms of how many films compete for our attention at the multiplex. With competition from the likes of THE HOBBIT and whatever other family friendly films are coming out it’s hardly surprising. Zombies don’t exactly scream Christmas time.

This is not a sign that the movie is in trouble as it hasn’t moved to January or September (traditionally the ‘dump months’) and is still in a prime release slot. It’s more likely that the extensive effects work and epic nature of the story are taking longer to finish than thought.
