Ever since it was officially announced that Batman would be in the sequel to Man of Steel the Internet has blown up with rumours and wild speculation. Then when Ben Affleck was cast things blew up again, albeit more angrily. Now another news story is flying over the city of Movietropolis regarding a screen debut for arguably DC’s most famous female hero, Wonder Woman. As per usual nothing is confirmed but for years now fans have been keen to see Wonder Woman in a film of her own. Countless attempts have been made but they all seem to fizzle out. The infamous DC Character’s only successful live-action appearance was way back in the ’70s with the TV series, which ran from 1975-79 and starred Lynda Carter.

No doubt many are salivating at the thought of seeing Wonder Woman onscreen next to Batman and Superman, in what is already becoming the most heavily discussed upcoming blockbuster in production. Although if these rumours carry any validity, one has to wonder if Zack Snyder’s sequel may be going the Spider-Man 3 route of having a character overload. Not to mention that Marvel, when building their cinematic universe, did so film-by-film. There is a danger here of trying to do too much, too quick and scuppering chances of doing justice to the league of fans and the comic book mythology. That being said, if David S. Goyer and Zack Snyder’s script, which takes influence from comic arc The Dark Knight Returns, comes together it should be grand.

Regarding the hoo-hah, Variety asked the Warner Brothers President of Creative Development and Worldwide production, Greg Silverman, a few questions. When asked whether the Man of Steel sequel will introduce other DC Heroes, he stated, “We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use all those characters and we love them”. Silverman then specifically said, “Wonder Woman is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful female superhero.” This singling out of Wonder Woman in his answer encouraged a question about whether she will be involved. Silverman replied, “We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stories as best they can. So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about.” Well-avoided, Mr. Silverman.

The, as yet, untitled Man of Steel sequel many audiences initially hoped would be called ‘The World’s Finest’, is scheduled for release on the 17th July 2015.
