Had your fill of TWILIGHT? Well get ready for more Stephanie Meyer related teenage nonsense because an adaptation of her non-vampire novel THE HOST is on the way from director Andrew Niccol (IN TIME).

Now a quality thespian in the shape of William Hurt has joined the cast that already includes Saorise Ronan (HANNA), Jake Abel (who?) and Max Irons (eh?).

THE HOST follows Melanie Stryder (played by Ronan) whose brain is hijacked by an alien parasite that specialises in replacing their host creatures personality. The alien finds that Melanie is more difficult a subject to pin down than usual and Melanie ends up teaming up with a resistance movement to the invasion. Hurt will play Melanie’s uncle, Jeb, who realises what is going on after initially being dismissed as a lunatic.

The film begins shooting in February for a March 2013 release. Andrew Niccol is an interesting filmmaker whose ideas haven’t always translated well to the screen. Stephanie Meyer is a cat collecting Mormon writer of terrible novels that have inexplicably made millions worldwide. I haven’t read the book and never will so if anyone can tell me if this is a good or a bad thing I would be grateful.
