We were under the assumption that the theatrical trailer for THE MUPPETS a few months back marked the end of their run of parody teasers. Happily, we were wrong – as this is probably the best yet. Disney sure aren’t taking any chances on this flick, we highly doubt there’s anyone on the planet who’s not been subjected to this super aggressive marketing campaign! But will that translate to tickets sales? We remain hopeful.

As inventive as the trailer is, I’m still troubled by Fart Shoes. It doesn’t feel very Muppet-like to stoop to such lavatorial humour like that. And it turns out I’m not the only one. Original Muppet performer Frank Oz ain’t happy either:

“I turned it down… I wasn’t happy with the script” he told Metro recently, “I don’t think they respected the characters. But I don’t want to go on about it like a sourpuss and hurt the movie.”

Is he referring to the dodgy gag in question? Or are there more surprises in store for us worse than Fartgate? We’ll find out in a matter of weeks when the Muppets return to the big-screen November 23rd in the US (annoyingly, it’s still a February 10th release date in the UK).
