Yep, it’s been a long time coming, but seems that stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter weren’t kidding when they started talking about a possible threequel some years ago – it’s further along than we’d thought.

Winter dropped the following on Twitter earlier today and offered the latest update on the project…

@alxwinter: Script done? Check. -We love it? Check. -Green light? Working on it!

While this is bound to be greeted with mixed feelings among fans, I think there’s a lot of possibilities here. Sure, it’s ridiculous, but isn’t that the driving force behind the previous movies (and TV shows)? Catching up with these characters when they’re pushing fifty could be a lot of fun. After all, it went down really well when they revisited an ageing Indiana Jones… Okay, so no it didn’t (personally, I loved SKULL, but know I’m amongst the few), but wouldn’t it be nice to see Reeves actually crack a smile again? Poor fella’s not been the same since those goddawful MATRIX sequels bombed.

We have to bear in mind that though the screenplay may be done, there’s no greenlight yet, so we could be facing another GHOSTBUSTERS 3 type situation.
