Warner Brothers producer Daniel Alter has tweeted something very interesting regarding Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Obviously any news regarding this film, unless officially confirmed, must be taken with a pinch of Bat-salt but if there is any weight behind this tweet, it has the potential to be as polarising, as “that” climax between Zod and Supes, if not more. The tweet reads: Can’t wait for ‪#BatmanvsSuperman.. ‪#batfleck semi-retired/not speaking to Robin anymore.. Controlling drones from the batcave.”

Now this isn’t cast iron news, but it is made more interesting by the fact we already know that Ben Affleck’s caped crusader is going to be more grizzled and the rumours of Dick Grayson’s (Robin) casting persist. So is there any truth to this drone aspect of Alter’s comment or is he tugging our capes? Indeed, it would be an interesting departure from how the character has been portrayed onscreen in the past, but is that necessarily a good thing? Many are still unsure about Batfleck as it is; let alone a development like this that feels very Batman Beyond in theory. Most will want to go to a film involving Batman to see Batman fight baddies, so this aspect could prove as polarising as the drones/suits in the Iron Man films (especially IM3), which were an issue for many.

Of course we shouldn’t get our red underwear in a bunch just yet, but this short comment is very interesting all the same and will no doubt spark avid debates among fans. Whether this prospect gets you more excited or makes you feel as sick as Superman after a Kryptonite cake, it will spark a response. Is that the point? We can only wait and see. Stick with Starburst for any developing news on the bat-drones. Man of Steel 2 / Batman vs Superman (or whatever they’re calling the film… surely they’ll announce it soon) is set to land in cinemas on July 17th 2015.
