In a time where every few weeks spews out a remake, reboot or rejig, now comes word from Deadline that WARGAMES is back on the redo list. Over recent years, HORRIBLE BOSSES’ Seth Gordon was attached to direct the remake but the project seemed to fall off the radar.

Starring Matthew Broderick, the original movie was released back in 1983 – over 30 years ago (yes, that makes us feel remarkably old) – and centred on a computer genius who hacks into a government system and accidently initiates a countdown to a nuclear weapons launch.

In terms of this remake, MGM is developing the project and have apparently already opened talks with PROJECT ALMANAC’s Dean Israelite to direct. The studio has also signed up GRACE OF MONACO’s Arash Amel to pen the script. No casting news is known at this stage, although the current frontrunners for the Broderick role are said to be THE FAULT IN OUR STARS’ Ansel Elgort and MUD’s Tye Sheridan.

Expect more on this as it develops.
