You may or may not remember the film WANTED from 2008. The film directed by mad Russian genius Timur Bekmambetov was based on a comic by Mark Millar and found a society of super assassins welcoming their newest member Wesley Gibson played by James McAvoy. It was violent, visually stunning and ludicrous. It also resembled the original comic in name and basic plot only, which was a serious missed opportunity in my book. The film was a reasonable hit and a sequel was talked about. Now making the publicity rounds for ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, Bekmambetov has revealed that the idea and screenplay for the WANTED sequel has overcome a major hurdle and is in development.

It seems the problem was how to continue the story seeing as most of the cast in the first film wound up dead. A few weeks back Bekmambetov came up with a cracking idea that he pitched and everyone fell in love with. An idea he describes as “Shocking”.

I enjoy the first movie on a purely ‘Guilty Pleasure’ basis but REALLY loved the comic when it came out in 2003. Will they be going back to the source material to mine it for gold? Hard to say as there are no more details yet. Angelina Jolie dropped out of a sequel some time ago (despite her character being dead) so at least we know it’s not a prequel.
