If anybody ever tells you that they completely comprehended Shane Curruth’s fantastic 2004 debut Primer, they’re lying. So densely plotted was this tale of backyard time travel, even Stephen Hawking himself was famously seen leaving a screening hammering the W, T and F keys in frustration. (Obvious lie for illustrative purposes only.) And so what of Upstream Color, Carruth’s long awaited follow-up film out later this year? Will he go easier on his audience this time? Judging by this theatrical trailer, which we were kind of hoping would shed a little more light on the narrative after two baffling previous teasers, it’s a firm ‘no’. I may not have a clue as to what this low-fi sci-fi drama is even really about, but color (sorry, colour) me intrigued…

Synopsis:

A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.

Upstream Color awaits a UK release date, but it opens Stateside in April.
